BounceAlarm! representing Norway at the Nordic Jazz Comets at the EFG London Jazz Festival
In the outskirts of Voss in Norway, this special collaboration in music started early. The partners in crime, Elisabeth Lid Trøen and Ingrid Øygard Steinkopf grew up together with a shared interest for jazz music. They both ended up studying at the acknowledged Jazz program at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). In Trondheim they decided to put together a band to continue exploring their musical friendship.
All compositions are by Steinkopf and Trøen, and pays tribute both to the Scandinavian soundscape, as well as to the American jazz tradition. A playful mix of energetic grooves and lyrical melodies. A three-piece horn-section brings varies of different colours and harmonies to the compositions, and combined with a steady piano trio, the band experiments with different roles and takes the audience on an energetic journey, mixing the new and old ways of jazz.
“I really enjoyed their sound: back-to-basics but done with style, exploring the chordal possibilities of having three horns and flute player who also plays piano! Their original music was a refreshing twist on tradition, full of energy, great solos and plenty of bounce”
