Nordic Jazz Comets 2022–2023: Dags Att Verka!

Nordic Jazz Comets Dagsverke is a two-year inter-Nordic project to support social and ecological sustainability and accessibility to jazz music through co-operation. The project is funded by Nordic Culture Point and the five Nordic jazz organizations.

Five career-building Nordic jazz ensembles (selected in a transparent process), 14 established jazz festival/club programmers and five national jazz organizations join in collaboration where live jazz music is combined with volunteering at socio-cultural and ecological projects and learning from professionals from other branches.

The change of perspective and increased knowledge will add value to the jazz professionals’ sustainability skill set, which is a growingly important asset in the future. Also the multidisciplinary networking may bring out new ideas of how to benefit from or how to incorporate sustainable development into the art and culture sector, or vice versa‚ how to find creative ways to use art in social or environmental progress.

The stakeholders work together at a “dagsverke” day at 3–5 selected NGOs or projects and meet at a showcase concert event the following day. The jazz music professionals connect with other professionals and new audiences. The concert event makes art music more accessible and provides a platform for different groups to interact and experience live (improvised) music.

The first event took place place in Copenhagen in February 2022, and the second edition in Stockholm and Gävle in May 2023. The first event was hosted by Jazz Danmark, in partnership with Jazz Club Montmartre and Copenhagen Jazz Festival. The upcoming event will be organized by Svensk Jazz.
